A large gathering of Scouts who rally at a national or international level. The Cambridge dictionary defines "Jamboree" as a large social gathering. Baden-Powell was once asked why he chose "jamboree". He replied, "What else would you call it?", a response that makes sense if the word already means a boisterous gathering.

The Summit Bechtel Reserve, a world class, sustainable, Jamboree site, will be the site of the 2019 World Scout Jamboree. The Summit Bechtel Reserve is located in West Virginia, USA, and is comprised of more than 14,000 acres of beautiful forested mountains adjacent to more than 70,000 acres of national park in the scenic New River Gorge area of West Virginia.

There program will capture the four core values of The Summit Bechtel Reserve: adventure, service, sustainability, and leadership. The foundations of Scouting are as much a part of SBR as the zip lines, mountain bike trails, and BMX ramps.

Visit the World Scout Jamboree web site for more information about the WSJ.

Here are a few head lines:

  • More information regarding registration, fees, etc will come late August.
  • The Contingent Management Team (CMT) is working on final numbers and aiming to keep the cost as affordable as possible.
  • The fees will be similar to that of a BSA National Jamboree.
  • It will be a location-based fee structure, taking into account that travel to the Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve will cost more for those who live far away (like Seattle) compared to those who live closer (like Pittsburgh).
  • No planning of any pre- or post-tours to keep the cost down.
  • The age requirements were approved and set by the World Scout Committee and World Organization Scout Movement (WOSM).
  • To be eligible to attend as a member of the USA contingent, Scouts must have been born between July 22, 2001 and July 21, 2005.
  • Older Scouts, such as Venturers, we recommend applying to be a part of the International Service Team (IST), or a unit leader.
